Kennedy signed a proclamation recognizing May I5'" each year as "Peace Officers' Memorial Day' and the week in which May 15`" falls as "Police Week'"; and WHEREAS in 2005, thirteen California Peace Of~ticers died in the line-of-duty and 415 died nationally all while protecting their communities. 'fhe thirteen California officers will he memorialized on May 5'" in Sacramento and all 415 will he memorialized on May 15'" in Washington U.C.; and WHEREAS, in a five-year time span, the Butte County Sheriffi s Office lost three deputies in the line-of duty; and WHEREAS, as a symbol of respect to those who have laid down their lives in the line of duty and a show of support to law enforcement officers working to protect our communities, blue ribbons are flown on personal cars and patrol cars during Police Week. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Butte County Board of Supervisors hereby proclaims May I5`" as Peace Officers' Memorial Day and the week of May 15-21, 2005, as Police Week in Butte County; BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Butte County Board of Supervisors recognizes public law 103-322 directing the flag be flown at half staff on Peace Officers' Memorial Day which falls on a Sunday.
