IZ:`S~~~i111U11 ~I~~. 05-117 RESOLUTION CELEBRATING THE 100~~~" BIRTHDAY OF THE NORTH STATE SYMPHONY (FORMERLY THE CHICO SYMPHONY) WHEREAS, the North State Symphony (formerly the Chico Symphony) is celebrating its 100'" year of existence; and WHEREAS, it was in 1905 that a small orchestra formed at what was then Chico Normal School; and WHEREAS, in the many decades since then, the orchestra has continued its performances; and WHEREAS, the composition of the orchestra has included California State University, Chico students and faculty, as well as community and professional musicians from around the region; and WHEREAS, in 2001 a merger between the Chico and Redding Symphonies was completed and the orchestra first performed under the name North State Symphony; and WHEREAS, under the musical leadership of Kyle Wiley Pickett, its quality and profile have grown significantly, as have the size of its audience; and WHEREAS, on September 24`" in Chico, the first performance of the new season will mark the 100`" birthday of the orchestra; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Butte County Board of Supervisors, acknowledge and celebrate the 100`" birthday of the North State Symphony, and express their appreciation for the artistic and musical contributions the Symphony makes to citizens of the County of Butte. PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Butte County Board of Supervisors this 13`h day of September 2005 by the following vote: AYES: Supervisors Connelly, Dolan, Houx, Josiassen and Chair Yamaguchi NOES None ABSENT: None / ~ NOT VOTING: None ,` l ~ ,~ , 'L ~` Kim K.
