RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE ACCEPTANCE OF
HELP AMERICA VOTE ACT (HAVA) FUNDS
TO IMPROVE POLLING PLACE ACCESSIBILITY
WHEREAS, the federal Help America Vote Act (HAVA) has mandated activities for the purpose of
rebuilding voter confidence and facilitating participation in the electoral process; and
WHEREAS, the California Secretary of State has developed the Election Assistance for Individuals
with Disabilities (EAID) Grant Program and has proposed to allocate HAVA funds to counties for the
purpose of improving accessibility to and participation in the elections process for individuals with the full
range of disabilities; and
WHEREAS, the County elects to participate in the Election Assistance for Individuals with
Disabilities Grant Program and apply for a grant in the amount of $25,219.28 which is the County's share of
the $3,345,629.00 in federal funds authorized for this purpose for all of the counties pursuant to the Budget
Act of 2004; and
WHEREAS, in order to participate in the Election Assistance for Individuals with Disabilities Grant
Program, the County must enter into an agreement with the California Secretary of State;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the County of Butte elects to participate in the
Election Assistance for Individuals with Disabilities Grant Program and authorizes the County Clerk-
Recorder/ Registrar of Voters to apply for and sign an agreement for grant funds and to utilize grant funds as
outlined in the attached Exhibit A, Standard Agreement.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Butte County Board of Supervisors:
Ratifies the submission of the Grant Application and authorizes the County Clerk-Recorder to
sign any and all documents for the grant process.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Butte County Board of Supervisors this 11th day of October
2005 by the following vote:
AYES: Supervisors Connelly, Dolan, Houx, Josiassen and Chair Yamaguchi
NOES: None
