HomeMy WebLinkAbout06-003RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF JOINING THE PROVINCE OF QUEZON, PHILIPPINES IN A TWINNING SISTERHOOD RELATIONSHIP WHEREAS the County of Butte and the Province of Quezon, Philippines mutually agree to enter into a Twinning Sisterhood relationship; and WHEREAS the Twinning Sisterhood Program is supported by numerous public agencies in the United States who have relationships with other agencies around the World; and WHEREAS those participating in Twinning Sisterhood Relationships have found them to be beneficial to their citizens; and WHEREAS the Quezon Province has a strong agricultural economy as well as lcey social and cultural benefits; and WHEREAS it will be beneficial to the People of the County of Butte to enter into a Twinning Sisterhood Relationship to expand the opportunities for economic, social and cultural exchanges; and WHEREAS an agreement to enter into a sisterhood Twinning Relationship would aim, among other things, to promote and extend the effective and mutually beneficial cooperation between the County of Butte and the Quezon Province; promote international goodwill, understanding, and expanded relations between two local government units and their respective nations by the exchange of people, ideas and information in a wide variety of economic, social, cultural, environmental, professional, youth and other endeavors. NOW, THEREFORE, SE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors, County of Butte, hereby accepts the offer of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Quezon, through their Resolution 2005-357 authorizing the Governor of Quezon to forge a Sisterhood Twinning Agreement with the County of Butte and authorizes the Chief Administrative Officer to formalize such an Agreement. PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Butte County Board of Supervisors this l0a' day of January 2006 by the following vote: AYES: Supervisors Connelly, Dolan, Houx, Yamaguchi and Chair Josiassen NOES: None ABSENT: None NOT VOTING: None URT ~OSXASSEN, Chair ATTEST: PAUL MCINTOSH, Chief Administrative Officer And Clerk of the Board of Supervisors By: eputy SYSTERHUUD AND TWINNING AGREEMENT By and Between the ~u~rrF ~~. of a ° ° o CO UNTY OF B UTTE, CALIFORNIA ~ `~ G~`o United States of America o ~~~-- -o o ~~ c~UN'~ -and the - ~ctALS ~` PROVINCE OF QUEZON The Philippines In accordance with the authorization and approval expressed by the Province of Quezon, in Resolution No. 2405-357 adapted March 17, 2005, by its Sangguniang Panlalawigan, and the County of Butte, State of California, United States of America, in Resolution No. 06-003 adopted by the Butte County Board of Supervisors on January i0, 2006, it is declared that a "Sisterhood and Twinning Agreement" between the two local government units is hereby established for the following purposes: To promote and expand the effective and mutually beneficial cooperation between the people of the Province of Quezon and the people of the County of Butte; and To promote international goodwill, understanding, and expanded relations between the two government units and their respective nations by the exchange of people, ideas, and information in a wide variety of economic, social, cultural, environmental, professional, youth and other endeavors; and To foster and encourage charitable, environmental, tourism, trade and commerce, literacy and educational activities between the parties. This Sisterhood and Twinning Agreement was officially established and shall become effective upon execution by officials of both parties.
