HomeMy WebLinkAbout06-077RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING MAY 15, 2006, AS "PEACE OFFICERS' MEMORIAL DAY" AND THE WEEK OF MAY 14-20 AS "POLICE WEEK" WHEREAS, in. 1962 President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation recognizing May 15tH each year as "Peace Officers' Memorial Day" and the week in which May 15~' falls as "Police Week"; and WHEREAS in 2005, eighteen California Peace Officers died in the line-of=duty and 155 died nationally all while protecting their communities. The eighteen California officers will be memorialized on May Sa' in Sacramento and all 155 will be memorialized on May 15~' in Washington D.C.; and WHEREAS, in a five-year time span, the Butte County Sheriff's Office lost three deputies in the line-of duty; and WHEREAS, as a symbol of respect to those who have laid down their lives in the line of duty and a show of support to law enforcement officers working to protect our communities, blue ribbons are flown on personal cars and patrol cars during Police Week. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Butte County Board of Supervisors hereby proclainns May 15th as Peace Officers' Memorial Day and the week of May 14-20, 2006, as Police Week in Butte County; BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Butte County Board of Supervisors recognizes public law 103-322 directing the flag be flown at half staff on Peace Officers' Memorial Day which falls on a Monday.
