554 RIO L[NDO AVENUE, CHICO CALIFORNIA AS
THE CHICO VETERANS MEMORIAL HALL
WHEREAS, The County of Butte, hereinafter referred to as "County," possesses
the facility known as the "Chico Veterans Memorial Hall" located at 900 Esplanade,
Chico, California, which has serious issues associated with mechanical and safety
matters that reduce its usefulness; and
WHEREAS, The Chico Veterans Memorial Hall Committee, hereinafter referred to
as "Committee," requested that County acquire a substitute facility that could more
economically be improved and maintained by County; and
WHEREAS, County acquired a substitute facility located at 554 Rio Lindo Avenue,
Chico, California, with some adjacent parking at 492 Rio Lindo Avenue, that can be
improved so as to maximize its usefulness to the veterans at a cost that is more
affordable to County; and
WHEREAS, County is willing to dedicate the newly acquired facility at 554 Riv
Lindo Avenue as the permanent Chico Veterans Memorial Hall; and
WHEREAS, County is willing to relocate s~applies and equipment from the facility
at 900 Esplanade to the new facility at 554 Rio Lindo Avenue; and
WHEREAS, Committee agreed to relinquish all rights to the facility at 900
Esplanade upon the dedication of the new facility at 554 Rio Lindo Avenue with two
conditions: 1} that the original, and existing, exterior appearance of 900 Esplanade be
maintained until otherwise agreed upon by County and Committee, and 2) that the
veterans be allowed continued access to 900 Esplanade until such time as the building at
554 Rio Lindo has been remodeled and is ready for occupancy; and
WHEREAS, County agreed that the original, and existing, exterior appearance of
the building at 900 Esplanade will be maintained until otherwise agreed upon by County
and Committee, and the veterans will be allowed continued access to 900 Esplanade
until such time as the building at 554 Rio Lindo has been remodeled and is ready for
occupancy; and
WHEREAS, County is familiar with that duty imposed upon it pursuant to Military
and Veterans Code Sections 1260 - 1266 and is willing to provide and maintain the newly
dedicated Chico Veterans Memorial Hall to ensure its usefulness for all veterans
functions; and
WHEREAS, Committee agreed to accept the newly acquired facility which is to be
dedicated as the "Chico Veterans Memorial Hall";
AND WHEREAS, County and Committee agreed to maintain the dedication of this
facility as the "Chico Veterans Memorial Hall" until the veterans' associations utilizing the
newly acquired Chico Veterans Memorial Hall no longer have use of the facility, per
Military and Veterans Code Section 1266.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE lT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors hereby
dedicates the building located at 554 Rio Lindo Avenue, Chico, California, to the veterans
of Butte County, to be known as the Chico Veterans Memorial Hall.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Butte County Board of Supervisors this z~thday
of June 2006 by the following vote:
AYES: Supervisors Gonnellq, Dolan, Yamaguc~ii and Chair Josiassen
NOES: None
ABSENT: Supervisor Houx
NOT VOTING: None
