RESOLUTION PROCLAIlVIING OCTOBER 2QQ6 AS
DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AWARENESS MONTH
WHEREAS, violence agauast women and children continues to become more prevalent as a
social problem due to the imbalance of power due to gender and age; and
WHEREAS, the problems of domestic violence are not confined to any group or groups of
people but cross all economic, racial, sexual orientation, and social barriers and are supported by social
indifference; and
WHEREAS, the crime of domestic violence violates an individual's privacy, dignity, security,
and humanity, due to systematic use of physical, emotional, sexual, psychological and economic control
and/6r abuse; and
WHEREAS, the impact of domestic violence is wide rangitag, directly affecting families, our
communities, and society as a whale.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Butte County Board of Supervisors, in
recognition of the important work done by domestic violence programs, hereby proclaims the month of
October 2006 as Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and urges all citizens to actively participate in
the scheduled activities and programs sponsored by the Butte Family Violence Prevention Council to
work toward the elimination of personal and institutional violence.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Butte County Board of Supervisors this 26`~ day of
September 2006 by the following votes:
AYES: Supervisors Connelly, Dolan, Houx, Yamaguchi and Chair Josiassen

NOT VOTING: None
