OF SUPERVISOR MARYANNE HOUR
BUTTE COUNTYBOARD OF SUPERVISORS
WHEREAS, Mary Anne Houx, Butte County Supervisor, District 3, had announced her
retirement from public office upon completion of her current term of office which is on January
7, 2007; and
WHEREAS, Mary Anne Houx began her first term as Butte County Supervisor in June
of 1991, having been appointed to that position by Governor Pete Wilson; and
- WHEREAS, the citizens of the 3rd Supervisorial District of Butte County confirmed
Mary Anne Houx's appointment in 1992 and the Boazd of Supervisors elected her chair in 1993;
and the citizens of the 3rd Supervisorial District of Butte County elected Mary Anne Houx in
1994, 199$ and again in 2002 for 4 year terms; and
WHEREAS, Mary Anne Houx served her constituents with an extraordinary degree of
devotion and a profound sense of duty with the ultimate goal of improvement of our well being
and of our way of life in Butte County; and
WHEREAS, Mary Anne Houx held to a code of forthrightness and integrity in all
matters, thereby being an example to all; and
WHEREAS, Mary Anne Houx placed the utmost importance on preparation,
understanding and perseverance in order to accurately and completely fulfill her supervisorial
obligations; and
WHEREAS, Mary Anne Haux demonstrated leadership and personal strength and
courage by endeavoring to do what is right for the citizens regardless of the consequences; and
WHEREAS, Mary Anne Houx embraced her obligations and responsibilities as a public
servant with a high sense of duty, and fulfills those obligations b'y being available and responsive
to constituents and representing them as needed; and
WHEREAS, Mary Anne Houx played an important and visible role as a leader in Butte
County by participating in many community events and organizations, many of which have
formally recognized and honored her contributions, and;
RESOLUTIONINRECOGNITIONAND HONOR
WHEREAS, Mary Anne Roux had been tireless in her devotion to the citizens of Butte
County, demonstrated by her efforts on their behalf with the leadership of the State of California;
and
WHEREAS, Mary Anne Houx was widely regarded with a high degree of respect by the
citizens of Butte County for her achievements and for her accomplishments on their behalf; and
WHEREAS, Mary Anne Houx passed from this life on Friday, November 17, 200b, and
shall be remembered by all as a caring, devoted public servant who consistently conducted her
duties with impassioned dedication and always championed the needs of the community first.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board, on its own behalf and on
behalf of the citizens of Butte County, extends its appreciation and recognition for Mary Anne
Houx's exemplary public service for the Citizens of Butte County; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Board, on its own behalf and on behalf of the
citizens of Butte County, expresses its sincerest condolences to her family and friends; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Board hereby proclaims, in honor of the
service and dedication of supervisor Mary Anne Houx, the Frank Waters Children's Trust Fund
shall be known as "The Frank Wafters and Mary Anne Houx Children's Trust Fund."
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Butte County Board of Supervisors this 12~' day of
December 200b by the following vote:
AYES: Supervisors Connelly, Bolan, 'Yamaguchi and Chair ~osiassen
