National Methamphetamine
Awareness Day in Butte County
WHEREAS, many parts of our Nation have suffered the severe consequences of a
methamphetamine epidemic; and
WHEREAS the direct and collateral damage has been enormous, including needless
destruction of families, surging identity theft and other crimes, toxic pollution from Meth labs, and
drug endangered children who suffer severe neglect and abuse; and
WHEREAS solving the Meth epidemic, and breaking the cycle of drug addiction in general,
requires strong support for athree-pronged approach of Prevention, Enforcement, and Treatment;
and
WHEREAS recent domestic and international efforts to control Pseudoephedrine and
ephedrine {the key ingredient necessary to make crystal Meth) have dramatically reduced the
incidence of local toxic Meth labs, reduced the purity of Meth on the street, and increased the cost of
Meth on the street; and
WHEREAS this recent progress has provided an opportunity to further raise community
awareness and support for Prevention, Enforcement, and Treatment efforts, and break the cycle of
addiction; and
WHEREAS the Office of National Drug Control Policy, the Department of Justice, and the
Department of Health and Human Services will conduct a series of events throughout the United
States to highlight the threat of methamphetamine, its destructive impact on America's families and
communities, and recent progress made at the federal, state, and local levels through a balanced
approach of Prevention, Enforcement, and Treatment;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED the Butte County Board of Supervisors,
hereby declare November 30, 2006, as National Methamphetamine Awareness Day and
encourage all citizens of Butte County to celebrate recovery and show their strong support
for Prevention, Enforcement, and Treatment.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Board of Supervisors this 21st day of
Novez~rkber 2006 by the following vote:
