FROM THE NORD AVENUE BRIDGE IN CHICO
'WHEREAS, the Butte County Board of Supervisors entered into a contract with the
Department of Water Resources under their Urban Streams Pragram in cooperation with
Streaminders in November 2002 to conduct a restoration and bank stabilization project on Big
Chico Creek in $idwell River Park irnrnediately downstream from the Nord Avenue Bridge,
and
WHEREAS, the City of Chico has recently been awarded funding under the Integrated
Watershed Management Program, Consolidated Implementation Grant, administered by the
State Water Resources Control Board to conduct a similar restoration. and bank stabilization
project on Big Chico Creek immediately downstream from the above-mentioned site, and
WHEREAS,. the City of Chico project includes~ biatechnical stream- bank stabilization
along three privately owned properties, floodplain excavation on one privately owned property,
all within the City of Chico and one small biotechnical bank stabilization on County-owned
property along Bidwell Avenue, and
WHEREAS, the continuation of restoration and bank stabilization down Big Chico
Creek in this manrxer has the potential to contribute to the stability of Bidwell Avenue which is
being eroded by the creek, and
WHEREAS, the City of Chico and the other grant partners aze requesting that the
County indicate its support for the City of Chico accepting the grant funds far a project that
includes work in the unincorporated azea of Butte County, and
WHEREAS, the County is aware that the City of Chico would not be implementing
that portion of the project, as it will be subcontracted to the CSU, Chico Research Foundation,
and
WAEREAS, the City of Chico is scheduled t+o consider a resolution accepting the -grant
award on the evening of November 21, 2006 and contracting between the City of Chico and the
funding agency must be completed by December 30, 2006, or the grant funds will not be made
available.
RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF THE CITY OF CHICO RESTORATION
PROJECT ON BIG CHICO CREEK
ADJACENT TO BIDWELL RIVER PARK
NOW, THEREFORE, BE TT RESOLVED, the Butte County Board of Supervisors
hereby resolves ~o support the City of Chico restoration project on Big Chico Creek adjacent to
Bidwell River Park downstream from the Nord Avenue Bridge immediately downstream from
the County's current restoration project which has been awarded funding under the Integrated
Watershed Management Program, Consolidated Implementation Grant, administered by the
State Water Resources Control Board.
PASSER AND ADOPTED by the Butte County Board of Supervisors this twenty-first
day of November 2006 by the following votes:
AYES: Supervisors Connelly, Dolan, Yamaguchi and Chair Josiassen
NOES: None
ABSENT: None
NOT VOTING: None
