HomeMy WebLinkAbout07-041~+,~,~-~ QF SU~'E1~V1S~R5 ~tJf~!"Y f3F Bt1TTE, STATE QF CALIFQRNI/t l~{'`iA)iifttJtt :~t` 07-041 RESOLUTION OF APPRECIATION TO SUPPORTERS OF THE TENTH ANNUAL COMMUNITY WIDE TRUE LOVE WAITS CAMPAIGN WHEREAS, the physical, emotional, and spiritual health and safety of young adults in our community is of vital importance to the residents of Butte County; and WHEREAS, the True Love Waits movement is observed worldwide on an annual basis; and WHEREAS, hundreds of thousands of teenagers and support organizations participate in the movement each year; and WHEREAS, the follow groups, supporters, and organizations are some of the participants in this year's True Love Waits Campaign: students in CLUB Nelson (Nelson Avenue School), Feather River Adventist School, Oroville Christian School, St. Thomas the Apostle School, Venture Club (Central and Ishi Hills Middle Schools), Las Plumas High School, Oroville High School, Caring for Women, the Community Health Alliance of Oroville (CHAO), and the YMCA; and WHEREAS, many local students have participated in sexual abstinence campaigns and have individually considered the consequences of sexual behavior; and WHEREAS, many students, following thoughtful consideration, have signed pledge cards vowing sexual abstinence from now until marriage; and WHEREAS, sexual abstinence is recognized by health organizations, physicians, health groups, and other organizations as a most effective means to preserve the health, futures, and integrity of our youth and communities; and WHEREAS, the positive commitments made now can assure positive decisions that can last a lifetime benefiting us all. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Butte County Board of Supervisors, recognizing the positive benefits of the True Love Waits movement hereby affirms the participants and supporters of the Tenth Annual Community Wide True Love Waits Campaign and encourages residents to acknowledge the importance of sexual abstinence by young adults until marriage as a viable method to promote health and well-being. PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Butte County Board of Supervisors this 27t" day of February 2007 by the following vote: AYES: Supervisors Connelly, Kirk, Josiassen, Yamaguchi and Chair Dolan NOES: None ABSENT: None NOT VOTING: None ~ -~ _ ..
