CALIFORNIA POPPY DAY, APRIL 6, 2007,
CELEBRATING THE 104TH ANNIVERSARY OF CALIFORNIA'S STATE FLOWER
WHEREAS, by Act of the California Senate, dated March 2, 1903, the California Poppy was
adopted as California's state flower; and
WHEREAS, by Act of the California Legislature, April 6 of each year has been designated
California Poppy Day; and
WHEREAS, on May 1, 1987, the California Poppy Project was founded to conduct
statewide, educational programs and to encourage all residents in California to return California to its
prolific, golden state by planting free packets of California Poppy seeds in non-public and approved
public areas; and
WHEREAS, the California Poppy Project's continuing goal is to "Help preserve and protect
our rails, paths, highways, coastal areas, parks and safety rest areas from the blight of discarded
litter;" and
WHEREAS, adults in California may request one free packet of California Poppy seeds by
visiting the California Poppy Project's website: http•//current-news.org/california-poppy-anniversarv-
15.html.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Butte County Board of Supervisors
does hereby celebrate and honor April 6, 2007, as California Poppy Day.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Butte County Board of Supervisors this 27th day of March
2007 by the following vote:
AYES: Supervisors

NOT VOTING: None
