SENATE BILL 893 RELATING TO CHILD DEVELOPMENT
WHEREAS, Senate Bill 893 would shift all Proposition 10 revenue away from First 5
Butte County and direct it to the State to provide health care services to children; and
WHEREAS, since Proposition 10 was approved by California's voters in 1998, First 5
Butte County has dedicated over $1 b million to programs aimed at improving the lives of Butte
County's youngest and most vulnerable residents; and
WHEREAS, programs funded through Proposition 10 monies include an array of
services addressing children's health, their readiness for school, their families' needs, and a
comprehensive system of care; and
WHEREAS, if SB 893 becomes law, Butte County's children and their families would
no longer have access to a variety of quality programs as determined by the local body.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of the County
of Butte opposes Senate Bill 893 because of its impact on local control and Butte County's
children and families.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Board of Supervisors of the County of Butte, State of
California, this 10th day of April, 2007, by the following vote:
AYES: Supervisors Connelly, Kirk, Josiassen, Yamaguchi and Chair Dolan
