COUNTY RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING AUGUST 2007
AS "CHILD SUPPORT AWARENESS MONTH"
WHEREAS, children are our most precious resource and become healthy, productive, and
well-adjusted adults through the support and nurturing of their families; and,
WHEREAS, California's child support program provides an important opportunity for non-
custodial parents to be a positive force in the lives of their children; and
WHEREAS, the Butte County child support services agency provides critical services to
children and families ensuring children have the opportunity to reach their full potential as productive
adults and members of our community; and
WHEREAS, although many non-custodial parents are concerned parents that willingly provide
emotional and financial support for their children, California and Butte County must continue to
encourage even more non-custodial parents to assume and embrace their parental responsibilities;
and
WHEREAS, in 2007, there are over 15,000 active cases in Butte County alone in which the
services of the Butte County Department of Child Support Services are required, in over 13,300 of
those cases paternity has been established for the children, in over 12,700 of those cases child
support orders have been established and over $13,450,600.38 has been distributed; and,
WHEREAS, California and Butte County are strongly committed to seeking ways to increase
the efficiency and effectiveness of its Child Support Program by implementing innovative programs
and systems; and,
WHEREAS, California and Butte County's child support program put "children first"; and
WHEREAS, increasing public awareness of the importance of this issue through education,
media attention and outreach will reinforce the need for all parents to take responsibility for the
financial, emotional, and physical support of their children;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT AND IT IS HEREBY ORDERED AND RESOLVED that this
Board of Supervisors proclaims August 2007, as "Child Support Awareness Month" in Butte
County.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Board of Supervisors of Butte, State of California, this 14th
day of August, 2007 by a unanimous vote of all members present.
