RESOLUTION HONORING NATIONAL FIRE PREVENTION WEEK
WHEREAS the week surrounding October 9t" has been recognized
as National Fire Prevention Week since 1922 in commemoration of
the Great Chicago Fire of 1871, and
WHEREAS Butte County Fire Department/CAL FIRE places a high
priority on fire prevention education and related activities such as
arson investigation, fire protection planning and public information
year round, and
WHEREAS over three thousand hours were devoted to public
education alone over the course of the past calendar year, and
WHEREAS the number of structure fires in the Butte County Fire
Department's jurisdiction has steadily decreased over the course of
the past five years from a high of 203 to in 2002 to 148 in 2006, and
WHEREAS the number of wildfires in CAL FIRE/Butte County Fire
Department's jurisdiction has declined over the past five years from a
high of 470 in 2002 to 289 in 2006, and
WHEREAS the dollar value of property saved by firefighters over the
past calendar year is in excess of $23 million, and
WHEREAS local media has partnered with the Butte County Fire
Department in publishing and broadcasting at least one news release
per week on public education and safety topics over the past year,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED the Butte County Board of
Supervisors recognizes the week of October 7, 2007 as National Fire
Prevention Week and acknowledges the year round fire prevention
efforts needed to help keep the citizens of Butte County safe..
Passed and Adopted by the Butte County Board of Supervisors this
9t" day of October, 2007 by the following vote:
AYES: Supervisors Connelly, Kirk, Josiassen, Yamaguchi, and Chair Dolan
