COUNTY OF BUTTE, ~TA1"E OF CALIFtJRNIA . • ~' ~' ~'' ''~ "~'~ Resolution No. a8-ors •*.•,~ov~,';"~•~ RE50LUTION IN RECOGNITION OF WILDFIRE AWARENESS WEEK, 2008 WHEREAS, the week of May 4-10, 2008 is recognized as "Wildfire Awareness Week" in California, and WHEREAS, the threat of large and devastating wildfires is a reality residents of California and Butte County must recognize, and WHEREAS collaborative efforts between the butte County Fire Department,` CAL FIRE, and the Butte County Fire Safe Council work to support wildfu•e prevention through a variety of programs including the chipper program, voluntary home inspection program, 6`~' Grade "Wildfire in the Foothills" program and the Fire PALS pro~~rarn, and WHEREAS homeowners must take responsibility by clearing dry grass and brush from around each building on their property providing at least 100' of defensible space, and WHEREAS by doing so, homeowners increase the chance of their home surviving a wildfire, and WHEREAS the Butte County Fire Department/CAL FIRE keeps 9~%- 98`/0 of all wildfires in their jurisdiction under 10 acres, and WHEREAS homeowners who comply with the 100' defensible space requirement contribute to that success by taking responsibility i'or their property `I'HERFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, The Board of Supervisors of Butte County recognizes and applauds the collaborative efforts of the Butte County Fire DeparhnentlCAL FIRE, the Butte County Fire Safe Council, and, most importantly, the homeowners who do their part to help keep our county safe from the threat of devastating wildfire.
