SERVICES JOINT POWERS AUTHORITY TO SUBMIT A REGIONAL
APPLICATION TO THE CALIFORNIA INTEGRATED WASTE MANAGEMENT
BOARD FOR THE HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE GRANT FY/20ti8/09 ON
BEHALF OF BUTTE COUNTY
WHEREAS, the people of the State of California have enacted Assembly Bill 1220 (Eastin,
Statues of 1993, Chapter b56) which provides grants to local governments to establish and
implement waste diversion and separation programs to prevent disposal of hazardous waste,
including household hazardous waste, in solid waste landfills; and
WHEREAS, the California Integrated Waste Management Board has been delegated the
responsibility for administering the Local Government Household Hazardous Waste Grant
which includes procedures governing the application by and payment to eligible cities and
counties; and -
ti'YHEREAS, local government has been tasked with the proper handling and safe disposal of
a growing list of materials including home generated used medical sharps, household
batteries and fluorescent tubes and bulbs; and
WHEREAS, a cooperative regional approach for the collection, disposal, public education
and outreach for these materials is deemed to the be the most efficient and cost effective
means for local government to address the problem posed by these wastes; and
WHEREAS, if awarded, the applicant will enter into a Grant Agreement with the California
Integrated Waste Management Board far implementation of said grant;
NOW, TFIEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the County of Butte authorizes the
Rural Counties Environmental Services Joint Powers Authority to submit to the California
Integrated Waste Management Board a regional application for the Local Government
Household Hazardous Waste Grant-FY 2008109 on its behalf. Rural Counties Environmental
Services Joint Powers Authority is hereby authorized and empowered to execute all grant
documents necessary to secure grant funds and implement the approved grant project.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Board of Supervisors, County of Butte, State of
California, this 24`" day of June, 2008, by the following vote:
AYES: Supervisors Connelly, Dolan, Kirk, Yamaguchi, and Chair Josiassen
NOES: None
ABSENT: None
NOT VOTING: None
