RESOLUTION PROCLAIM[NC THREE CL-PS OF TEA AS "I'HE BOOK IN C01YIivION
FOR THE COUNTY OF BUTTE IN 2(108-U9.
WHEREAS, the County of Butte values reading, reflection and action in support of building a
sense of~community, strengthening literacy and advancing tl:e common <~ood;
WHEREAS, programs such as readin~~ a Book in Common across the country have been shown
to enhance com~z~unity and foster dialogue on important social, political and personal questions;
WHI~REAS, Butte County Library. Ca}ifornia State University. Chico, Butte College, Chico
Unified School District, Enloe Hospital. the Chico Enterprise-Record, Lyon's Books, and local
citizens in book clubs around our C ounty have selected the book, Three Clams of "hea: One Man's
Mission to ~Promate Peace , ..One School a_t a "hime. by Greg Mortenson and David Oliver
Relin, as the Book in Common;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLd'E®, by the Butte County Board of Supervisors that
Three Cups of "Tea will be the Baok in Common for the county of Butte in 2008-2009.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Board of Supervisors of the County of Butte, State of
California, on this 23rd day of September 2008 by the fo}lowing vote:
