RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING
ALICE R. SMITH
ON HER 1 UUTH BIRTHDAY
WHEREAS, Alice R. Smith is celebrating her 100th birthday which will
occur on January 8, 2009;
WHEREAS, Alice R. Smith is a 3~i-year resident of the Town of Paradise
and has been the most active member of the community both, politically,
philanthropically and through volunteerism;
WHEREAS, Alice R. Smith served as a member of the Paradise Town
Council from 1994-1998 and as Mayor in 1997;
WHEREAS, Alice R. Smith is one of the founders of the Paradise
Coalition of Senior Citizens who built the Paradise Ridge Senior Center at a
cost of $580,000 in 1985 and is a current member of and docent at the Gold
Nugget Museum;
WHEREAS, Alice R. Smith was a member of the of the Board of the
Performing Arts Center and current usher;
WHEREAS, Alice R. Smith is an honorary Chair of the Gold Spike Project
for the Depot in the new Community Park and a current member and Vice
Chair of the Paradise Redevelopment Steering Committee;
WHEREAS, Alice R. Smith was a humanitarian of the Bays 8~ Girls Club
of the Paradise far 2006 and has donated aver X25,000 to the Bays 8s C'sirls
Club of Paradise; and has also set up a $50,000 Endowment far the Bays 8s
Club of Paradise;
WHEREAS, Alice R. Smith is an honorary member of the Paradise Rotary
Club;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors
hereby recognizes Alice R. Smith on her 100tr' Birthday.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Butte County Board of Supervisors this
16th day of December 20Q8 by the following vote:
AYES: Supervisors Connelly, Dolan, Yamaguchi, Rirk, and Chair Josiassen
