RESOLUTION IN RECOGNITION OF SHIRLEY EKROLL, LIBRARY VOLUNTEER, FOR S5
YEARS OF LIBRARY SERVICE
WHEREAS, the County of Butte recognizes the value of maintaining a corps of
dedicated Library volunteers; and
WHEREAS, Shirley Ekroll, Library Volunteer, has dedicated over 55 years of service
as an employee and a volunteer for the public libraries in Butte County; and
WHEREAS, Shirley began her career as a Library Assistant with the City of Oroville in
1953, was promoted to Assistant Librarian in 1959, and later served as City Librarian until 1971
when the City and County libraries merged; and
WHEREAS, Shirley continued to serve as a Library Assistant III with the Butte County
Library until she retired in 1983; and
WHEREAS, Upon retirement Shirley immediately re-joined Butte County Library staff in
an extra help capacity, where she continued to serve until her second retirement in 2000; and
WHEREAS, Upon her second retirement, Shirley became a faithful Butte County
Library volunteer and as such, continues to volunteer her time several days each week; and
WHEREAS, Shirley's accomplishments include many years of successfully
coordinating the CETA summer work program, becoming an accomplished library statistician,
and an invaluable historian; and
WHEREAS, Shirley has taken great pride in her job as a public servant conducting
herself with the highest level of integrity and responsibility; and .
WHEREAS, Shirley has worked diligently for the past 55 years in the best interest of
Butte County and its citizens;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that this Board, on its own behalf, and on
behalf of the residents of the County of Butte, wish to express to Shirley Ekroll sincere
appreciation for her many years of unselfish dedication and outstanding service rendered to the
residents of the County of Butte.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Board of Supervisors of the County of Butte, State of
California, this 24~' day of March 2009, by the following vote:
AYES: Supervisors Connelly, Dolan, Kirk, Lamberti, Yamaguchi
