RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS
OF THE COUNTY OF BUTTE
PROCLAIMING MAY 2009 AS WATER AND WATERSHED
AWARENESS MONTH IN BUTTE COUNTY.
WHEREAS, California is marking its 22"d annual observance of May as Water
Awareness Month, promoting the message "Nice Save!"; and
WHEREAS, water is a resource that is vital to the people, economy, wildlife and
environment of the County of Butte; and
WHEREAS, the Board has recognized the importance of water within our county
through the passage of various ordinances for its protection, including Chapter 23B, the
Water Well ordinance that outlines specifications on spacing and construction of wells;
Chapter 33, the Groundwater Conservation ordinance; and Chapter 33A the Groundwater
Management ordinance; and
WHEREAS, the Board recognizes the importance of working together to increase
the public's understanding of water-related issues and the need to manage and conserve
this valuable resource for future generations; and
WHEREAS, the County of Butte, the California Watershed Network, and other
watershed partnerships in conjunction with the State of California, are celebrating
Watershed Awareness Month in May 2009; and
WHEREAS, calling attention to the importance of the County of Butte
watersheds will increase the awareness that we all live in a watershed and haw we impact
the health and viability of watersheds through our everyday activities; and
WHEREAS, keeping our watersheds healthy protects public health, water supply
and quality, fisheries, wildlife, agriculture, economic development and recreation
activities in the County of Butte; and
WHEREAS, a steadfast dedication to watershed awareness represents a worthy
commitment to future generations;
NOW, THEREFDRE, BE 1'T RESOLV'E'D that the Board of Supervisors hereby
proclaim May 2409 as Water and Watershed Awareness Month in the County of Butte
and urges every citizen of the County to recognize the importance of both sound water
management and the watershed in which you live, and to commit to keep learning and
identifying how you can make a difference, even in your own backyard.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Butte County Board of Supervisors this fifth day of
May 2009 by the following vote:
