RESOLUTION RENAMING THE NEAL ROAD SANITARY LANDFILL AS THE
NEAL ROAD RECYCLING AND WASTE FACILITY
WHEREAS, on February 26, 1965, the County of Butte purchased property on
Neal Road for the purpose of disposing waste materials; and
WHEREAS, environmental stewardship and technological advancement has
allowed Butte County to more responsibly manage waste with a hierarchy of reduce,
reuse, recycle, and recover; and
WHEREAS, the current modules of the Neal Road facility are constructed to the
most cun-ent design standards and the facility meets all environmental regulations; and
V4'HEREAS, current efforts and future plans, including converting landfill gas to
electricity, well exceed traditional disposal tecl~liques; and
WI~EREAS, the title of Neal Road Sanitary Landhll does not adequately portray
all the current and planned efforts of Butte County to manage local waste streams
consistent with the California Integrated Waste Management Board's hierarchy for
management of said waste while also meeting the community's needs;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Butte County Board of
Supervisors, hereby recognizes the Neal Road Sanitary ~LandfiIl as the Neal Road
Recycling and Waste Facility. This name change will be recognized in all future contracts
and code references from the execution of this resolution. The Board of Supervisors'
Solid Waste Committee •cvill be changed to the Recycling and Waste Commi#tee.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Board of Supervisors of the County of Butte,
State of California, this 21st day of ruly, 2009 by the following vote:
AYES: Supervisors Dolan, Birk, Lambert, Yamaguchi, and Chair Connelly
