~~ESOLUTION IN RECOGNITION OF SHAROL H. STRICKLAND,~000RT
EXECUTIVE OFFICER, UPON RETIREMENT FROM THE SUPERIOR COURT OF
CALIFORNIA, COUNTY OF BUTTE
WHEREAS, Sharol H. Strickland, Court Executive Officer for the Superior Court of
California, County of Butte, announced her retirement with her last date of employment
of February 2fi, 201 D; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Strickland guided the Superior Court through the implementation of the
Trial Court Funding Act that dictated the transition of the Court away from the County to
become an agency of the State; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Strickland was instrumental in maintaining a fully functional relationship
between the County and the Court subsequent to the transition to maintain a high level
of service to our mutual constituency; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Strickland began her career with the County of Sonoma as a legal
process clerk in 1980; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Strickland advanced through her career within the Municipal Courts of
Sonoma and Contra Costa Counties from 1980 to 1995; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Strickland has served as the Court Executive Officer, Clerk of the
Court, and Jury Commissioner of the Superior Court of California, County of Butte from
1995 to 2010, and as the Court Executive Officer of the South Butte County and North
Butte County Municipal Courts from 1995 to 1998; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Strickland has served the Butte County Courts throughout the
administration of six Presiding Judges; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Strickland has demonstrated innovative and outstanding leadership by
improving the administration of justice in Butte County and throughout the state; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Strickland has increased public access and public confidence in the
court, expanded public services, enhanced technology, and created new opportunities
far continuing education and professional development for all staff; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Strickland served as a member of the Judicial Council from 2D05 to
20D8, as a member of the Court Executives Advisory Committee, and of various
subcommittees of that group including those studying court interpreters, court
infrastructure, rule review, strategic planning, court operations, and uniform filing fees;
and
WHEREAS, Ms. Strickland has served on the Judicial Council's Task Force on Self-
Represented Litigants, the Trial Court Budget Working Group, and the Task Farce on
Judicial Selection and Retention; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Strickland's statewide contributions include service on educational
programs sponsored by the Judicial Council and the Center for Judicial Education and
Research, both as a faculty member and a committee leader; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Strickland has pioneered efforts to increase public access to the Courts
by allowing online access to case information; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Strickland has been instrumental in local and State efforts to improve,
expand, and construct Court facilities that better serve the needs of the community; and
WHEREAS, during Ms. Strickland's 15 years of progressive leadership the Butte
Superior Court has been awarded ten Ralph N. Kleps Awards for court innovations, the
highest honor awarded to a Court by the Judicial Council of California; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Strickland received the 2008 Judicial Administration Award for
Distinguished Service, the highest honor awarded to an individual by the Judicial Council
of California; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Strickland worked diligently for the past 29 years in the best interesf of
the State of California, including the Counties of Sonoma, Contra Costa, Butte, and their
citizens, helping to make these communities better places to live _
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that this Board, on its own behalf, and on ~::~`
behalf of the residents of the County of Butte, wishes to express to Sharol H. Strickland
sincere appreciation far her dedication and outstanding service rendered to the residernts
of the County of Butte, and further wishes her warmest regards upon her retiremen#.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Butte County Board of Supervisors this 23`~ day of
February, 2010 by the following vote:
AYES: Supervisors Dolan, Kirk, Lambert, Yamaguchi, and Ghair Connelly
