HomeMy WebLinkAbout10-136Resolution RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF THE COUNTY OF BUTTE AUTHORIZING THE DEPARTMENT OF WATER AND RESOURCE CONSERVATION TO PARTNER WITH THE SLITTER COUNTY RESOURCE CONSERVATION DISTRICT IN APPLYING FOR A DEPARTMENT OF CONSERVATION WATERSHED COORDINATOR GRANT. WHEREAS, in 2000, the California Legislature approved a $2 million pilot program to fund watershed coordinators through Resource Conservation Districts; and WHEREAS, the California Department of Conservation Statewide Watershed Program has published a 2010 Request for Proposals for Watershed Coordinator Grants; and WHEREAS, the purpose of the Statewide Watershed Program is to advance sustainable, watershed-based management of California's natural resources using community-based strategies by providing funding and support for watershed coordinator positions to advance watershed management that results in benefits to the natural resources of the State; and WHEREAS, the Board has recognized the importance of water within our county through the passage of various ordinances for its protection, including Chapter 23B, the Water Well ordinance that outlines specif cations on spacing and construction of wells; Chapter 33, the Groundwater Conservation ordinance; and Chapter 33A the Groundwater Management ordinance; and WHEREAS, the Board recognizes the importance of working together in a regional effort to increase the public's understanding ofwater-related issues and the need to manage and conserve this valuable resource for future generations; and WHEREAS, the County of Butte has supported previous efforts to call attention to the importance of the County of Butte watersheds; and WHEREAS, keeping our watersheds healthy protects public health, water supply and quality, f sheries, wildlife, agriculture, economic development and recreation activities in the County of Butte; and WHEREAS, a steadfast dedication to watershed awareness represents a worthy commitment to future generations; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the Board of Supervisors of the County of Butte that the Butte County Department of Water and Resource Conservation, by and through the signature of the Director, Paul Gosselin, is authorized to submit a letter of comrnitrnent to the Sutter County Resource Conservation District to engage as a one third partner in the application to obtain funding through the 2Q14 Statewide Watershed Program Watershed Coordinator Grant.
