WHEREAS, Supervisor lane Dolan began her first term as District 2 Supervisor on
January 8, 1979 and became the longest continuously serving County Board of Supervisors
member in the history of the State of California with thirty-two years of service; and
WHEREAS, Supervisor Dolan served as Chair of the Butte County Board of Supervisors
in 1983, 1987, 1991, 1992, 1999, 2000, and 2007 and served as Vice Chair in 1982, i 990, 2008,
and 2009; and
WHEREAS, Supervisor Dolan has always been a dedicated supporter of the Butte
County agricultural community and was a leader in the effort to preserve the agricultural lands of
Butte County with the establishment of the Chico Area Crreenline; and
WHEREAS, Supervisor Dolan worked together with County and City leaders for the
creation of the Chapman-Mulberry Neighborhood Plan and has been involved in efforts to
improve the infrastructure and quality of life in all Butte County communities and to enhance the
level of service provided to Butte County residents; and
WHEREAS, Supervisor Dolan was the driving force behind finding a solution for the
groundwater problems in the Chico Urban Area; and
WHEREAS, over the last 32 years, Supervisor Dolan has represented Butte County on
numerous Boards and Committees, including, but in no way limited to, the Butte County
Association of Governments, Butte County Air Quality Management District, the Local Area
Formation Commission, and the Sacramento River Conservation Area; and
WHEREAS, Supervisor Dolan has been and remains a dedicated supporter of the Butte
County Library in her role as a Supervisor and now as a member of the Library Advisory Board;
and
WHEREAS, Supervisor Dolan is a fourth generation native and life-long resident of
Butte County, attending Notre Dame School, Chico and Pleasant Valley High Schools, and
California State University, Chico, where she was elected Associated Student President in 1973;
and
WHEREAS, Supervisor Dolan is an active member in the Chico schools, including
serving as the Secretary of the Chico High School Sports Boosters and a Parent Teacher
Association member; and
WHEREAS, Supervisor Dolan, in her capacity outside of County service, has received
numerous awards and honors over the years, such as hex 1989 induction into the Chico Public
Education Hall of Fame, a California PTA Golden Oak Award in 2007, her 1994 induction into
the CSU-Chico University Leaders, and an Innovation Award from the National Association of
Economic Development Organizations in 1987; and, in this year, the California State Association
of Counties Circle of Service Award, which is presented to County officials for going above and
beyond the call of duty on behalf of California Counties; and
WHEREAS, Supervisor Dolan is Aunt Jane to Sarah, Jessica, Andy, Patrick, Tim, Erin,
Alexandra, Mauricio, Jaxon and to hundreds of students whose lives she has touched through her
participation in and support of the Chico schools;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Butte County Board of
Supervisors, on its own behalf and on behalf of the residents of Butte County, wish to recognize
Supervisor Jane Dolan for her dedication and service to the people of Butte County;
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Butte County Board of Supervisors this 14th day of
December 2010.
