SUBJECT AND SHORT TITLE: The salaries and number of
positions of. the .officers and employees, of the County of
Butte, are fixed and determined as hereinafter set forth;
;and the ordinance shall be known as the "Salary Ordinance".

lg Upon recommendation of the Sheriff and with the approval of
the Board of Supervisors, a Constable who devotes a substantial
~g portion of his time to law enforcement work under the direction
of the Sheriff may be paid compensation in addition to his
20 salary as Constable in an amount which would correspond to the
salary he would earn as a Deputy Sheriff. The additional
21 compensation paid a Constable shall be based upon merit and
length of service as set forth in Sections 6.7 and b.8 of the
22 Personnel Rules.

Beginning July 1, 1970, the classification, number and salary range
of positions authorized for each department or unit are set forth
in the following sections. No department head shall appoint more
employees to a class of position than is provided for, except that
(I) a new employee may be appointed to a posit ion. not more than
ten (10) working, days before the employee he is replacing is
separated; and (2) that the positions of Clerk II, Clerk Typist II,
Steno Clerk II, and Account Clerk II, may be filled with the
Iower classifications in each series.

PAYMENT Ol' SALARIES: The salaries of the officers, deputies,
clerks, and employees of the several departments and institutions
~f the county shall be paid semi-monthly. Extra help employed
by departments and institutions of the county shall be limited to
the budgetary provisions therefore and such extra help sha11 also
be paid semi-monthly in the same manner as the officers, deputies,
clerks, and employees referred to above.

A11 other ordinances inconsistent with the provisions of this
ordinance are hereby repealed as of the effective date hereof,
provided specifically that provisions in ail previous ordinances
relating to health insurance for elective and appointive officers
and employees of the County of Butte, shall remain in full force
and effect.
SECTION N0. 51
EFFECTIVE DATE AND' PUBLICATION: This ordinance shall take
effect thirty (30) days after the date of its adoption and
before the expiration of fifteen (15) days after its passage
shall be published once with the name of the members voting for
and against in a newspaper published in said County of Butte.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF THE COUNTY
OF BUTTE, State of California, at a regular meeting thereof, on
the 9th of June, 1970, by the following vote:
