WHEREAS, National Foster Care Month originated in 1988 to appreciate and recognize the tremendous
contributions of foster parents across the nation; and
WHEREAS, the family, serving as the primary source of love, identity, self-esteem and support, is the very
foundation of our communities and our State; and
WHEREAS, in Butte County there are approximately 532 children and youth in out-of home care being provided
with a safe, secure and stable home; and
WHEREAS, all young people in foster care need a meaningful connection to a caring adult who becomes a
supportive and lasting presence in their lives; and
WHEREAS, foster and kinship families, who open their homes and hearts and support children whose families
are in crisis, play a vital role in helping children and families heal and reconnect thereby Iaunching young people into
successful adulthood; and
WHEREAS, there are numerous individuals, public and private organizations who work to increase public
awareness of the needs of children in and leaving foster care as well as the enduring and valuable contribution of foster
parents, as the foster care "system" is only as good as those who choose to be part of it; and
WHEREAS, Foster Care Month provides an opportunity to be grateful for the tireless efforts of foster and kinship
families throughout Butte County.
NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of the County of Butte, State
of California, hereby declare the month of May 20I 1 as Faster Care Month in recognition of the foster and kinship
families of Butte County who devote their talents and energies on behalf of children, and in acknowledgement of all they
do in helping children and families to achieve positive outcomes.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Butte County Board of Supervisors this 10th day of May 2011 by the fallowing vote:
