WHEREAS, Howard W. Abbott, Assistant District Attorney for Butte County, announced his retirement as
of June 30, 20I 1; and
WHEREAS, Howard W. Abbott began his career with the Butte County District Attorney's Office on May
1, 1978 after serving his country for more than four years in the Judge Advocate General's Corps of the United
States Navy; and
WHEREAS, Howard W. Abbott moved through the ranks at the District Attorney's Office becoming Chief
Deputy District Attorney in January 1986 and later Assistant District Attorney and has served as the Director of the
Family Support Division, Supervisor of the Chico Branch of the District Attorney's Office and Supervisor of the
Driving Under the Influence Program; and
WHEREAS, Howard W. Abbott was a mentor and teacher to many in the District Attorney's Office with his
encyclopedic knowledge of criminal law and procedure. A man of impeccable integrity, Howard W. Abbott has
gained not only the respect of his fellow prosecutors and ]aw enforcement officers, but also of the judges and defense
attorneys of Butte County; and
WHEREAS, Howard W. Abbott has always been described as the consummate gentleman and scholar,
having graduated from the University of California, Berkeley and the Hastings School of Law and has served his
country and the citizens of Butte County for more than thirty-three (33) with extraordinary distinction and leadership;
and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that this Board, on its own behalf and on behalf of the residents
of the County of Butte, wish to express to Howard W. Abbott sincere appreciation for his many decades of unselfish
dedication and outstanding service rendered to the residents of the Gaunty of Butte, and further wish him well upon
his retirement.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Board of Supervisors of the County of Butte, State of California, this 28`n
day of June 2011, by the following vote:
AYES: Supervisors Connelly, Wahl, Kirk, Yamaguchi and Chair Lambert
