WHEREAS, violence against women and children continues to become more prevalent
as a social problem due to the imbalance of power due to gender and age; and
WHEREAS, the problems of domestic violence are not confined to any individual
circumstances or groups of people but cross all economic, racial, sexual orientation, and social
barriers and is supported by social indifference; and
WHEREAS, the crime of domestic violence violates an individual's privacy, dignity,
security, and humanity, due to systematic use of physical, emotional, sexual, verbal and
economic control andlor abuse; and
WHEREAS, the impact of domestic violence is wide ranging, directly affecting families,
our carnmunities and society as a whole;
WHEREAS, the Board of Supervisors recognizes the important work done by domestic
violence programs and urges all citizens to actively participate in the activities and programs
sponsored by Catalyst Domestic Violence Services to work toward the elimination of personal
and institutional violence;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors hereby
recognizes the month of October 2011 as Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
