That Ordinance No. 1095 of the County of Butte is hereby amended as follows: a, That Section No. 3, "SALARY PLAN FOR CLASSIFIED EMPLOYEES", be amended by adding thereto, Class Title Number and Range Public Health Education Assistant 17.0 Public Health Service Aid 7.0 b. Definition. _ ~ _ Under close supervision to provide liaison between members of the community and the program agencies; to assist prr~fessional and. technical staff in providing a wide variety of services to persons in the community; to receive on-the-job training in duties to which the position is: assigned; and_to do other work as related. Class Characteristics This class is used to employ persons who have a first-hand knowledge of the problems and concerns of persons who have public health related problems including those who are misusing or in danger of misusing alcohcl and drugs. Assignments may vary widely based ran individual background and abilities and the program, Initially close supervision is given, but as the e*~p~nyee gains experience, some duties may be performed with a greater de~•ree of independence. _ Typical Tasks • Learn methods and techniques needed in r~rder to establish and maintain liaison between professional and technical staff and "target" individuals and grnups in the community; learn general agency prngra~n content and available co*+~munity resources in order to acquaint community target grnup with programs; explain new programs and provide assistance to the target group in utilizing available agency services and ether community resr~urces; assist agency persr~nnel to develop a better understanding of the needs of persons and groups in the community by providing them with observations and information reflecting the particular preferences, interests, concerns and needs of the community-group involved; as directed, arrange appointments for individuals wa.th appropriate agencies or organizations; may transport, arrange for transpnr.tatinn, or accompany residents nn appointments for services or interviews; follow up on broken appointments to explain the need far, and value nf, a particular service; as assigned, may assist community residents with such services as general counseling, job placement, and school placement; assist in the preparation of ne*~rsletters and bulletins written in the language used and understood by the target group; may prepare simple repr~rts and records; learn how to operate audio-visual equipment such a motion picture projectors, slide and film strip projectors, and tape recorders; assist in conducting educational programs geared to the needs and interests of~target groups. Minimum Qt3alificatinns Education: Ability to read, write and understand English. Eutte County -~ .3/71 PUBLIC HEALTH EDUCATInN ASSISTANT Definition Under the direction of the Public Health Education Director, participates and assists with all phases cf public health education work, including the preparation and presentation of public health education material and public contact in the promotion and presenta- tion of programs; performs other related work as required. T ical Tasks Assist in preparing exhibits and posters for presentation at meetings, cnnf erences, and other public displays; research health infoz~matinn and prepare copy for bulletins, periodic reports, and educational materials; prepare news releases and special features en assigned health topics; assist in planning and participating in workshops, institutes, f©rums and discussion groups t~ promote public health and health education; prepare and deliver talks on assigned health topics and nn the objectives and services of the health department to interested grnups; assist in the r~rganization and functioning of community groups who are studying and working ran community problems. Employment Standards Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation frn~n a four-year college or university with major course work in public health, natural sciences, behavioral sciences er education. Knewledges and F~bili~ies Knowledge of: the techniques involved in preparing and displaying pesters, exhibits and other educational visual aids; the facilities, media, methods and techniques of disseminating educational information to the public; the function of community health agencies. Ability to: present ideas accurately, effectively, and concisely, both orally and in writing; de~~^nnstrate resourcefulness in gathering data, and composing articles and SDEeches on public health topics and to use these effectively; establish and maintain effective wnrkin~: relationships with associates, community agencies and the general public.
