NATIONAL PUBLIC HEALTH WEEK 20I2
AS APRIL 2-8, 2012
WHEREAS, a presidential proclamation in 1995 designated the first full week of April as National Public Health Week
to highlight efforts in communities across the nation and to heighten awareness of important public health issues ;and
WHEREAS, the American Public Health Association has declared April 2-8, 2Q12, as National Public Health Week.
WHEREAS, through this year's theme, "A Healthier America Begins Today: Join the Movement, "Butte County Public
Health will join other counties in California and across the nation to focus on a holistic approach in disease prevention and
wellness at the individual and community levels; and
WHEREAS, Butte County Public Health believes health starts at the community level, and we need strong communities
that support active living, encourage healthy eating and reduce tobacco use; and
WHEREAS, during National Public Health Week, the County Public Health Department will focus its activities and
efforts on the five daily themes of Active Living and Healthy Eating; Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drugs; Communicable
Disease; Reproductive and Preventive Health; and Mental and Emotional Well-being; and
WHEREAS, public health professionals and others who work to promote public health in our communities provide an
important role in protecting and furthering the health and welfare of our residents, and their dedicated efforts are
appreciated and worthy of commendation.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Butte County Board of Supervisors hereby recognizes April 2-8,
2012, as "Butte County Public Health Week," commends the Public Health Deparhnent and others working in the field of
public health for outstanding and dedicated service to the community, and encourages the residents of Butte County to
join together to create strong and healthy communities in Butte County.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Butte County Board of Supervisors this 2'1'~ day of March 2Q 12 by the following vote:
AYES: Supervisor Connelly, Wahl, Kirk, Yamaguchi and Chair Lambert
