HomeMy WebLinkAbout12-045RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING WHEREAS, April is National Volunteer Appreciation Month and the Butte County Sheriffs Office would like to recognize the hundreds of volunteers who have dedicated hundreds of thousands of hours to this Office and the community; and WHEREAS, the STARS program has 68 active members who do an exceptional job as the "eyes and ears" of the Sheriff's Office. Since its inception in 1993, STARS personnel have volunteered 648,783 hours to the Sheriffs Office, other law enforcement agencies, and to the citizens of Butte County; and WHEREAS, the Butte County Sheriff's Reserve Deputies have spent countless hours working as extra help Deputy Sheriffs on patrol, investigations, in the courts and jails. The 33 Reserve Deputies have made important contributions to the furtherance of the goals and mission of the Butte County Sheriff s Office; and WHEREAS, the Butte County Sheriffs Office Search and Rescue Unit founded in 1961, boasts 32 volunteers who donate approximately 8,700 hours per year. The Search and Rescue Unit assists law enforcement with rescues, searches for lost or missing subjects, body recoveries, public evacuations in case of natural disasters, and much more; and WHEREAS, the Butte County Honorary Deputies Association was founded in 1983 to provide monetary support for Butte County Law Enforcement. Since then the Association has donated more than $250,000 to local law enforcement; and WHEREAS, the Butte County Communications Reserve consists of 16 personnel who last year alone dedicated 1450 hours. The Communications Reserve provide additional communications for the Sheriffs Office and CAL Fire and Butte County Fire, provide support during fires and other emergencies, and perform other special functions; and WHEREAS, the 32 members of the Butte County Sheriffs Mounted Posse volunteer when needed for search and rescue, natural disasters, floods, fires and other emergencies. The Posse provides training facilities for the advancement of training far the Sheriff s staff and other agencies. Cal Fire utilizes the Posse property for their training center. Each year they provide outreach to the youth of the community by sponsoring Horse Play Days. The annual Bandit Chase sponsored by the Posse promotes and encourages family participation in a 3 day weekend horse camping outing. They also sponsor an annual Antique Show at the Silver Dollar Fairgrounds each February. The Posse provides sponsorship and support for the FFA program at the CORE Charter School in Chico. Founded in 1941, the Posse promotes the pioneering spirit of our forefathers and provides community outreach innumerous horse-related events and activities in the Butte County Community; and WHEREAS, the Butte County Sheriff's Office Chaplaincy Corps have donated thousands of hours of service since 2000. The Chaplains assist law enforcement personnel in providing support to victims and families of victims of crime. BUTTE COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE VOLUNTEERS NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Butte County Board of Supervisors recognizes the importance of the Butte County Sheriff's Office volunteers and the positive impact they have both at the Butte County Sheriff's Office and in the community.
