HomeMy WebLinkAbout12-046RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS TO PROCLAIM MAY 20'I2 AS MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS MONTH WHEREAS, the citizens of Butte County are committed to promoting the mental health and well-being of all citizens; WHEREAS, children at any age may experience a degree of emotional andlor mental health distress that may have a negative impact on their family, social, and educational experiences; and WHEREAS, with effective treatment those individuals with mental health conditions can recover and lead full productive lives; and WHEREAS, one in four persons may experience a mental health problem sometime in their lives, aver 80% of #hese individuals will not receive services because of stigma, lack of awareness, andlor lack of access to community resources; and WHEREAS, it is important that children, adolescents, adults, families and the community learn about the warning signs of mental health problems and where to obtain necessary assistance and treatment; and WHEREAS, prevention is an effective way to reduce the burden of mental health conditions; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors do hereby proclaim May 2012 as Mental Health Awareness Month in Butte County. As members of the Board of Supervisors, we also call upon our community to commit to increasing awareness and understanding of mental health, the steps our ci#izens can take to protect their mental health, and the need for appropriate and accessible services for all people with mental health conditions.
