HomeMy WebLinkAbout12-080RESOLUTION TO COMMEMORATE THE CENTENNIAL CELEBRATION OF THE RICE EXPERIMENT STATION, BlGGS, CALIFORNIA WHEREAS, the Rice Experiment Station was founded on June 19,1912 by the Sacramento Valley Grain Association and the Bureau of Plant Industry of the United States to establish the first rice field station on the West coast. WHEREAS, the establishment of the Rice Experiment Station marked the establishment of commercial rice production in California, which now exceeds 500,000 acres in annual production. WHEREAS, this research facility has been in continuous operation since 1912 developing new varieties, producing foundation seed and supporting the development of new seed varieties. WHEREA5, the Rice Experiment Stations is owned by the California Cooperative Rice Research Foundation, Inc. a non- profit rice grower owned and funded foundation that continues to operate in cooperation with the University of California and the USDA-ARS to support rice research. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Board of Supervisors of the County of Butte, State of Caii#arnia, pass this resolution in recognition of the centennial of the Rice Experiment Station and its continuing, outstanding contributions as a cornerstone to the past and future economic well-being to the rice industry in Butte County and the whale rice producing region of California. PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Board of Supervisors of the County of Butte, State of California, this 31St day of July, 2012, by the following vote: AYES: Supervisors Connelly, Wahl, Kirk, Yamaguchi and Chair Lambert NOES: None ABSENT: None NOT VOTING: None Steve Lambert, and Chair
