problem as a result of the imbalance of power due to gender and age; and
WHEREAS, the problems of domestic violence are not confined to any individual circumstances or
groups of people but cross all economic, racial, sexual orientation, and social barriers and is supported by social
indifference; and
WHEREAS, the crime of domestic violence violates an individual's privacy, dignity, security, and
humanity, due to systematic use of physical, emotional, sexual, verbal and economic control and/or abuse; and
WHEREAS, the impact of domestic violence is wide ranging, directly affecting families, our
communities, and society as a whole;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, the Butte County Board of Supervisors, in recognition of the
important work done by domestic violence programs, does hereby recognize the month of October 2012 as
Domestic Violence Awareness Month and urges all citizens to actively participate in the scheduled activities
and programs sponsored by Catalyst Domestic Violence Services to work toward the elimination of personal
and institutional violence;
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Butte County Board of Supervisors on this 9`~' day of October 2012

AYES: Supervisors Connelly, Wahl, Kirk, Yamaguchi and Chair Lambert
