BUTTE COUNTY PROBATION DEPARTMENT
WHEREAS, Brian Anderson, Butte County Juvenile Hall Superintendent within the Butte County Probation
Department, has announced his retirement as of November 21, 2012; and
WHEREAS, Brian Anderson began his career with the Probation Department in the Butte County Juvenile Hall
in March of 1977, as a Juvenile Hal! Counselor and worked his way through the ranks of Senior Juvenile Hall
Counselor, Supervising Juvenile Hall Counselor, and eventually was appointed Superintendent of Juvenile Hall
in 1998; and
WHEREAS, Brian Andersan has served both the County of Butte and the larger populace of the State of
California as a leader on several committees and professional organizations. Brian Anderson has been a
member of CAPIA, serving an their executive board; was the chairperson far the Superior Chapter of the
CPPCA; served on the STC Executive Committee; and has provided mentoring to his various peers throughout
the State of California regarding.iuvenile Institutions; and
WHEREAS, in 1980, Brian Anderson was selected as "Line Staff bf the Year" within Butte County Juvenile Hal{.
A performance evaluation written that year stated, "Your leadership is obvious in that it has motivated other
staff to become mare involved with the children." Still another stated, "It is clear that Brian Anderson
absolutely laves the job he has. It.is clear he enjoys working with troubled minors and making a difference in
their lives."; and
WHEREAS, Brian Anderson has mentored the careers of hundreds of current and past Probation Department
personnel. Brian Anderson has overseen the care and custody of thousands of Butte County's youth over a
span of 35 years and implemented numerous innovative programs within the Juvenile Hall to assist those
youth entrusted into his care; and
WHEREAS, Brian Andersan has chosen to join the ranks of those who have come before him in moving auto
much deserved retirement after a bountiful career and many dutiful years of service. Brian Anderson, BA as
he is more widely and affectionately known, now joins his athletic heroes Green Bay Packer Brett Favre, and
numerous Yankees legends in their own retirements. A slightly modified portion of Lou Gehrig's retirement
speech may summarize it best, "Which of you wouldn't consider it the highlight of his career just to associate
with them for even one day? Sure, I'm lucky. Who wouldn't consider it an honor to have known Brian
Anderson?
WHEREAS, Brian Anderson has served the people of Butte County with professionalism, integrity, and
unparalleled enthusiasm for over 35 years, and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board, on its own behalf and on behalf of the citizens of Butte
County, extends its appreciation for your many years of dedicated service.
PASSED, APPROVED, AND ADOPTED by the Butte County Board of Supervisors in a meeting thereof held on
the 20~hday of November, 2012 by the following vote:
AYES: Supervisors Connelly, Wahl, Kirk, Yamaguchi and Chair Lambert
NOES: None
