Resolution Na. 12-136
WHEREAS, Supervisor Kim Yamaguchi began his first term as Butte County Supervisor for District 5 on January 8,
2001 and was re-elected in 2004 and 2008; and
WHEREAS, Supervisor Yamaguchi has never missed a Board meeting or a single vote during his tenure on the
Board; and
WHEREAS, over the last 12 years, Supervisor Yamaguchi has served on numerous boards and committees,
including, but not limited to, the Butte County Association of Governments, Butte County Air Quality Management
District, the Butte County Behavioral Health Board, the Butte Regional Waste Management Authority, and the Butte
County Fire Safe Council; and
WHEREAS, he has also represented Butte County on regional and national levels through appointments to the
Regional Council of Rural Counties, the Sierra Nevada Conservancy; National Association of Counties; and the USDA
Forest Service Butte County Resource Advisory Committee; and
WHEREAS, Supervisor Yamaguchi has been instrumental in his support far and the completion of several Public
Works projects to improve safety and the quality of life for District 5 constituents and ah Butte County residents. One
such project was the Skyway Lookout Point Project which now has safe access and parking and offers spectacular views
of the Butte Creek Canyon and Sacramento Valley floor; and
WHEREAS, Supervisor Yamaguchi, working with his fellow Board members, aggressively lobbied federal
legislators and succeeded in securing funding for the much needed Forest Highway 171, Upper Ridge Escape Route
which allows residents an additional route to exit the Ridge in the event of an emergency; and
WHEREAS, Supervisor Yamaguchi, outside his capacity as a County Supervisor, has served active roles in the
Paradise Elks, the Paradise Grange, the Loyal Order of the Moose, and Catalyst Domestic Violence Services and has been
an staunch advocate for local Veterans' organizations. He is a member of the California Rifle and Pistol Association and
the National Rifle Association; and
WHEREAS, Supervisor Yamaguchi and his wife, Lorraine now plan to spend their retirement together as private
citizens, enjoying all of the recreational activities Butte County and Northern California have to offer, including camping,
fishing, and the art of wine making.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Butte County Board of Supervisors, on its own behalf and on
behalf of the residents of Butte County, wish to recognize Supervisor Kim Yamaguchi far his dedication and service to
the people of Butte County and for his many accomplishments and contributions in his twelve years as County
Supervisor.
