HomeMy WebLinkAbout13-007IN SUPPORT FOR THE BUTTE COUNTY 2-1-1 CALIFORNIA PUBLIC UTILITIES COMMISSION (CPUC) APPLICATION WHEREAS, on July 21, 2000 the Federal Communications Commission designated 2-1-1 the three digit dialing code to provide public access to information and referral to health and human services; and WHEREAS, 2-1-1 implementation will be on acounty-by-county basis per regulation of the California Public Utilities Commission; and WHEREAS, this single point of contact will simplify access to both government and non-profit community services; and WHEREAS, 2-1-1 will streamline the delivery of information regarding available services to the genera{ public, and will assist service providers in better meeting the needs of their clients and the general public; and WHEREAS, Butte County [Help Central Inc.) is in the process of developing a Cali#ornia Public Utilities Commission [CPUC) application for residents to be able to use the telephone for calling 2-1-~.; and WHEREAS, 2-1-1 will be a toll-free phone number that will help link individuals to the appropriate community resource and information referrals; and WHEREAS, dialing 2-1-1 will be the quickest way to access non-emergency resources #or the community; and WHEREAS, 2-1-1 will be available to support vital public communication during and after disasters; and WHEREAS, presently more than 94% of Californians in thirty counties have access to 2-1-1 services and mare than 1.6 million people in California call 2-~.-1 annually; and NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of the County of Butte support the Butte County 2-1-1 California Public Utilities Commission [CPUCy Application.
