Resolution No. 1.3-044
WHEREAS, a presidential proclamation in 1995 designated the first full week of April as National Public Health Week
to highlight efforts in communities across the nation and to heighten awareness of important public heattl- issues ;and
WHEREAS, the American Public Health Association has declared April 1-7, 2013, as National Public Health Week.
WHEREAS, through this year's theme, "Public Health is ROI (Return on Investment} -Save Lives, Save Money" Butte
County Public Health will join other counties in California and across the nation to focus on highlighting the value of
prevention and the importance of well-supported public health systems in preventing disease, saving lives and curbing
health care spending; and
WHEREAS, Butte County Public Health believes health starts at the community level, and we need strong communities
that support active living, encourage healthy eating and reduce tobacco use; and
WHEREAS, during National Public Health Week, the County Public Health Department will focus its activities and
efforts on the five daily themes of Ensuring a Safe, Healthy Home for Your Family, Providing a Safe Environment for
Children at School, Creating a Healthy Workplace, Protecting You While You're on the Move, and Empowering a
Healthy Community; and
WHEREAS, public health professionals and others who work to promote public health in our communities provide an
important role in protecting and furthering the health and welfare of our residents, and their dedicated efforts are
appreciated and worthy of commendation.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that.the Butte County Board of Supervisors hereby recognizes April 1-7,
2013, as "Butte County Public Health Week," commends the Public Health Department and others working in the field of
public health for outstanding and dedicated service to the community, and encourages the residents of Butte County to
join together to create strong and healthy communities in Butte County.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Butte County Board of Supervisors this 26'" day of March 2013 by the following vote:
AYES: Supervisors Wahl, Kirk, Lambert, Teeter and Chair Connelly
