The American Cancer Society's Cancer Prevention Study - 3
WHEREAS, the American Cancer Society's Cancer Prevention Study - 3 is recruiting 300,000 adults
across the United States to help better understand the genetic, environmental and lifestyle factors that cause or
prevent cancer; and
WHEREAS, in 2013, more than 1.6 million people in the United States will be diagnosed with cancer,
more than 1,204 of those living in Butte County; and
WHEREAS, Butte County has been selected as an enrollment site for this historic study that will follow
participants for 20 years by asking them to spend about 4S minutes every other year updating the research team
on their health and habits; and
WHEREAS, Butte County is known as a caring community with a strong ethic of volunteerism; and
WHEREAS, Butte County residents have supported American Cancer Society events yearly, to help
fund research, education, advocacy and patient services for cancer survivors in Butte County; and
NOW, THEREFORE, the Butte County Board of Supervisors do hereby proclaim the week of April
15, 2013 as Cancer Prevention Week.

following vote:
AYES: Supervisors Wahl, Kirk, Lambert, Teeter and Chair Connelly
