~~a.,a.~-°e RESOLUTION DECLARING NOVEMBER 2013 AS
ADOPTION MONTH
WHEREAS, there are approximately 400,000 children in the foster care system in the United States;
approximately 114,000 of whom are waiting for families to adopt them; and
WHEREAS, in Butte County there are approximately 492 children and youth in foster care in Butte County;
approximately 21 of whom are waiting for families to adopt them; and
WHEREAS, approximately 64 percent of the children in foster care are under the age of 10; and
WHEREAS, the average length of time a child spends in foster care in the United States is over 3 years; and
WHEREAS, every day loving and nurturing families are strengthened and expanded when committed and dedicated
individuals make an important difference in the life of a child through adoption; and
WHEREAS, there are numerous individuals, public and private organizations who work to increase public
awareness of the needs of children waiting for permanent homes, as well as the enduring and valuable contribution of
adoptive parents; and
WHEREAS, both National Adoption Day and National Adoption Month occur in November; and
WHEREAS, National Adoption Day is a collective national effort to find permanent, loving families for children in
the foster care system.
NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of the County of Butte, State
of California, hereby declare the month of November 2013 as Adoption Month in Butte County; recognize that every
child should have a permanent and loving family; and encourage all citizens to consider adoption during the month of
November and throughout the year.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Butte County Board of Supervisors this 5th day of November 2013 by the following
vote:
AYES: Supervisors Wahl, Kirk, Lambert, Teeter and Chair Connelly
NOES: None

NOT VOTING: None
