ON HIS RETIREMENT FROM BUTTE COUNTY FIRE DEPARTMENT WHEREAS Chief George Morris Jr. began his career with Cal Fire with the San Mateo/Santa Cruz Unit as a Fire Fighter in 1977, then in 1981 he became a Fire Apparatus Engineer for the Humboldt/Del Norte Unit and in 1985 he became a Fire Captain at the Eel River Conservation Camp. WHEREAS Chief George Morris Jr. reported in 1988 to the Butte County Fire Department as a Fire Captain at Palermo Fire Station 72. Throughout George's time with the Butte County Fire Department he has served as the Emergency Command Center Captain, Fire Prevention Bureau Battalion Chief, Operations Assistant Chief, Deputy Chief and Fire Chief. WHEREAS Chief George Morris Jr. has provided exceptional leadership as an Incident Commander on Cal Fire's Incident Command Team 3 throughout the State of California and during lightning fires of the Butte Complex of 2008. WHEREAS Chief George Morris Jr. was instrumental in the coordination of the Standard of Response Cover study that serve as the fire departments goals and recommendations. WHEREAS Chief George Morris 1r. has demonstrated his commitment to the citizen volunteer firefighters by establishing the Volunteer Standard Operating Procedures to ensure local, state and federal training requirements are met. WHEREAS Chief George Morris Jr. has been a member of, and served multiple years as the President of the Butte County Fire Chief's Association and as an active member of Cal Chiefs. WHEREAS Under the leadership of Chief Morris, the Fire Department has enjoyed the construction of a new fire station in Bangor as well as upgrading critical fire apparatus and was awarded several State and Federal grants for the purchase of valuable fire and rescue equipment. WHEREAS Chief George Morris Jr. is highly regarded and respected as a leader and fire service professional by his colleagues throughout the State and Butte County and has been the driving force in establishing auto aid agreements with other fire agencies and cooperators and is viewed by the members of all Fire Departments as a fair and effective leader. WHEREAS IN Chief George Morris Jr.'s retirement, he plans to enjoy the time with his wife, family, grandchildren, doing photography and wood working. NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Butte County Board of Supervisors expresses its gratitude and appreciation for Chief George Morris Jr. for 40 years of dedication and loyal service to the State of California and the citizens of Butte County. The foregoing resolution was duly passed and adopted by the Butte County Board of Supervisors.
