HomeMy WebLinkAbout14-024Resolution No. 14-024 RESOLUTION DECLARING MARCH 2014 AS SOCIAL WORK MONTH WHEREAS, the primary mission of Social Work is to enhance human well-being and help meet the basic needs of all people, especially the most vulnerable in society; and WHEREAS, Social Workers provide the front line of defense in the system of services aimed at protecting children from neglect and abuse, and in protecting the frail elderly and other dependent adults from neglect, abuse, and exploitation; and WHEREAS, Social Workers help people in every stage of life function better in their environments, improve their relationships with others, and solve personal and family problems; and WHEREAS, Social Workers advocate for others to make sure everyone has access to the same basic rights, protections, and opportunities; understanding that poverty and trauma can create lifelong social and economic disadvantages; and WHEREAS, Social Workers connect individuals, families and communities to available resources and support diverse families in every community; and WHEREAS, Social Workers believe that each person has the right and potential to lead a productive and fulfilling life with dignity; and WHEREAS, Social Workers celebrate the courage, strength, and determination of the human spirit, and work to empower others to hope, dream and believe in their own potential; NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of the County of Butte, State of California, hereby declare the month of March 2014 as Social Work Month in Butte County to honor all Social Workers for their commitment to the profession of social work; their dedication to the highest moral and ethical standards; and their practice of social work with the competency of their profession, as their primary obligation, for the welfare of the individuals and families served.
