Resolution No. 14-032
RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING APRIL 2014. AS
CHILD ABUSE PREVENTION IVi(3P1TH
WHEREAS, Child abuse and neglect continues to be a problem in Butte County and in
all counties throughout California; and
WHEREAS, Preventing child abuse and neglect means helping families build strengths
so that their children can thrive; and
WHEREAS, Protective factors are the strengths that families can draw upon when life
gets difficult; and
WHEREAS, The following five protective factors have been proven to assist families
and prevent child abuse and neglect:
Parental Resilience
Social Connections
Knowledge of Parenting and Child Development
Concrete Support in Times of Need
Social and Emotional Competence of Children; and
WHEREAS, Knowledge of these factors makes it possible for communities to provide
programs and resources to help strengthen families; and
WHEREAS, Effective programs succeed because of partnerships among human services
agencies, community based organizations, schools, the faith community, law enforcement, the
business community, and the new 211 phone service; and
WHEREAS, Butte County Child Abuse Prevention. Council provides a collaborative
forum for the planning and implementation of family strengthening programs; and
WHEREAS, April is recognized by the U.S. Congress as Child Abuse Prevention
Awareness Month; and
WHEREAS, The Board of Supervisors encourages all community members and
agencies to work together to strengthen families, thereby reducing the incidence of child abuse
and neglect in Butte County.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that April, 2014 is Child Abuse Prevention
Awareness and Family Strengthening Month in Butte County.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Board of Supervisors of the County of Butte this 25th
day of March 2014, by the following vote:
AYES: Supervisors Connelly, Wahl, Dirk, Lambert and Chair Teeter
