NO' 3f"1 y Resolution No. 14-038 RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING APRIL 2014 AS SEXUAL ASSAULT AWARENESS MONTH WHEREAS, Sexual Assault Awareness Month calls attention to the fact that sexual violence is widespread and impacts every community, including Butte County; and WHEREAS, rape, sexual violence, and sexual harassment impact our community, and statistics show 1 in 5 adult women and 1 in 71 adult men will be raped at some point in their lives; and WHEREAS, child sexual abuse prevention must be a priority to confront the reality that 1 in 6 boys and 1 in 3 girls will experience some form of sexual violence before they reach the age of 18; and WHEREAS, young people experience heightened rates of sexual violence, and youth ages 12-17 were 2.5 times as likely to be victims of rape or other forms of sexual violence; and WHEREAS, we must work together to educate our community about sexual violence prevention, supporting survivors, and speaking out against harmful attitudes and actions; and WHEREAS, with leadership and dedication, we can be successful in preventing sexual violence in Butte County by increasing education, awareness, and community involvement; and WHEREAS, for the past 40 years Rape Crisis Intervention&Prevention has led the way in Butte County in addressing sexual violence by providing free 24-hour hotline services to victims/survivors and their significant others; responding to emergency calls; offering ongoing support and comfort to those impacted by sexual violence during medical exams, criminal proceedings; and empowering those impacted by sexual violence to chart their own course for healing; and WHEREAS, Butte County strongly supports the efforts of Rape Crisis Intervention& Prevention and encourages all to actively engage in public and private efforts to prevent sexual violence. NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED,the Butte County Board of Supervisors does hereby recognize April 2014 as Sexual Assault Awareness Month. PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Board of Supervisors of the County of Butte this 8"' day of April 2014, by the following vote: AYES: Supervisors Connelly, Wahl, Dirk, Lambert and Chair Teeter NOES: None ABSENT: None NOT VOTING: None Doug Teeter, Chair, Butte County Board of Supervisors
