RESOLUTION ECfJGNI I "a NNUA , CASA SUPERHERO RU
ON SEPTEMBER , 2014
WHEREAS, our children need to do more than simply survive. They need to thrive, in the safety and dove of a
family throughout their childhood and into adulthood;
WHEREAS, there are over 740 children in Butte County that have been abused and/or neglected and are now in
the Dependency Court System, living in foster care. These children face the overwhelming future of multiple foster
homes, multiple social workers, multiple schools and an uncertain life;
WHEREAS, at its heart, this is not merely an issue of abuse, or neglect, or of a broken system, or overburdened
workers, but of the unalienable rights of a child. This is about ensuring that every child has the right to learn, grow and be
treated with dignity and respect;
EDEAS, Court appointed Special Advocate (CASA) volunteers are essential in ensuring the child is heard
and supported throughout the Dependency Court P'ro'cess. It is recognized that the involvement of a CASA in a neglected
and abused child's life results in the D'epend'ency Court .fudge's ability to make informed lifelong decisions on behalf of
the child;
WHEREAS, CASAs provide neglected and abused children in the Dependency Court System with a consistent
caring adult who will ensure the child's safe passage out of foster care,to the benefit of the child and generations to come;
WHEREAS, everyone in the program from administrators to volunteers to the children who are in the system are
Superheroes;
WHEREAS, the CASA support agency, Northern Valley Catholic Social Service, has p►:►t together a fundraiser
for the benefit of our CASA prograrn by sponsoring a I K, 5K, and I OK CASA SUPERHERO RUN 'event on Saturday
September 20, 2014 in Bidwell Park as noted on the website hq1-x:l/un4cgsa.copi/
NOW, THERE,FORE, BE IT RESOLVED OLVED that Saturday September 20, 2014. is designated as CASA.
SUPERHERO DAY. The Board Of Supervisors wishes to support the fund raising efforts for this worthy program. All
citizens of the COUNTY of BUTTE are urged to support this worthy program and to participate in the CASA
SUPERHERO RUN either as a runner or by financially sponsoring runners, including children who are under the rnantl'e
of the CASA program.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Butte County Board of Supervisors, this 26"' day of August 2014 by the
following vote:
