RESOLUTIONRECOGNIZING 50 YEARS S F BROADCASTING— KIXE-TV, CFI. 9, REDDING, C
WHEREAS, KIXE-TV began operation on October 5, 1964 as an educational television station, which)
was the culmination, of a vision that started with the incorporation of KIXE TV ten years earllier; and
WHEREAS, KIXE-TV moved its studies from Chico to Redding in 1967,the same year President Lyndon
Johnson signed the Public Television Pict, and became a part of PIKS when the Public Broadcasting Service
began) in 1969; and
WHEREAS, KIXE-TV is one of over 300 Public Broadcasting Stations in the United States, and began
broadcasting in black and white only in 1964, and transitioned to broadcasting color network programs in
1971, and produced original) color programs in 197'4; and
WHEREAS, KIXE-TV gloved from the tiny facility on Industrial Way in Redding, CA to its newly
renovated studio on North) Market Street in 1987, and terminated analog broadcasting and began transmitting
in digital only in 2008; and
WHEREAS, KIXE-TV has partnered with schools over the past 50 years to improve the quality of
education in our community by providing libraries of both printed and aud'ilol/visual resources to preschools
and elementary schools in the 10 Northern California Counties; and
WHEREAS, KIXE-TV has partneredwith social service agencies to provide outreach, by producing
programs on issues of community importance in order to raise community awareness of these issues andto
identify solutions to pressing problems; and
WHEREAS, KIXE-TV has partnered with cultural institutions to bring the arts, culture, science and
history to our community audience, and has promoted the activities of local organizations to strengthen the
cultural life of our community,
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors joins KIXE-TV in celebrating 50 years
of broadcasting,as of October 5, 2014.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Butte County Board of Supervisors this 2.31 day of September, 2014 by
the following vote:
YES: Supervisors Wahl, Kirk, Lambert and Chair Teeter
ES;. None �.
ABSENT: Supervisor Connelly
T VOTING: None DOUG TEETER, Chair
Butte County Board of Supervisors
