Resolution Recognizing the Contribution of PASSAGES Volunteers WHEREAS, PASSAGES is an organization that assists caregivers and older adults lead healthier, happier, and more rewarding lives by providing and supporting the critical services and community resources they need; and WHEREAS, the majority of the services and programs PASSAGES provides are free of charge; and WHEREAS, volunteer opportunities through PASSAGES include professional training and support to ensure volunteers are capable and comfortable to meet critical needs within our community; and WHEREAS, from July 1, 2013 through June 30, 2014, seventy-two Foster Grandparent volunteers tutored and/or mentored 354 children with special or exceptional needs in Butte and Colusa Counties, contributing over 70,000 hours of service in schools, Head Start programs, the Boys & Girls Club of the North Valley and migrant children's centers; and WHEREAS, in the same time period, volunteers for flICAP (health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program) who advocate for Medicare recipients, provided counseling to more than 4,000 Medicare beneficiaries. H1CAP Volunteers spent approximately 12,000 hours guiding new and existing Medicare recipients through today's complex and challenging healthcare system; and WHEREAS, since July 2013, thirty-three Ombudsman volunteers, advocating for dependent adults living in residential or skilled nursing facilities, spent over 2,200 hours resolving complaints in live county areas; and 23 Senior Companion volunteers assisted 81 homebound older adults with significant physical and/or mental health issues. Volunteers provided over 16,000 hours of companionship and 23,000 miles of transportation. In total, PASSAGES volunteers have provided over 100,000 hours of service to our community since 2013; and NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Board of Supervisors of the County of Butte, does hereby recognize the vital contributions PASSAGES volunteers provide to the citizens of Butte County and the surrounding areas.
