Resolution Recognizing Roger Aylworth
Upon his Retirement
WHEREAS, Roger Aylworth has announced his retirement effective February 13, 2015, one month shy
of his 39 year anniversary with the Chico Enterprise-Record; and
WHEREAS, during his tenure at the Enterprise-Record, Roger was assigned many of the reporting
beats on the paper ranging from public safety to public schools; and
WHEREAS, Roger was the editor of the Oroville Mercury-Register for several years and he has also
written features, a Sunday column, and served as a copy editor for a time; and
WHEREAS, Roger is well known at the County as a conscientious and ethical reporter; and
WHEREAS, Roger's turn of phrase and elegant use of the English language allowed him to report on
events with the gravity appropriate to the story, while at other times the events allowed Roger's natural wit and
humor to come through the story; and
WHEREAS, Roger has attended hundreds of Board of Supervisors meetings, where he has worked
through the General Plan 2030 hearings, where he became convinced the number 2030 referred to the total
meetings in the process; he shared the Board Room with hundreds of citizens with opinions on marijuana, while
keeping to his high standards of writing; and reported on the redistricting process, always conscious of where to
draw the lines of his story; and
WHEREAS, Roger's first plan upon retirement is not to get up at quarter-to-five every morning. He
intends to spend his time traveling with his wife, the Saintly Susan, to visit their seven children(scattered in six
states from Georgia to Washington) and 24 grandchildren, and to dedicate more time to his Church.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors congratulates Roger
Aylworth on his retirement and expresses sincere appreciation for his dedicated service to the people of the
County of Butte.
