RESOLUTION IN APPRECIATION OF RICHARD B. PRICE
UPON HIS RETIREMENT FROM BUTTE COUNTY
WHEREAS, Richard B. Price, Butte County Agricultural Commissioner and Director of Weights and
Measures, announced his retirement as of September 30, 2015; and
WHEREAS, Richard began his career in Shasta County as an Agricultural Investigator in 1975. He
earned his Deputy Commissioner papers in 1980 and was promoted to serve as Deputy Agricultural
Commissioner in Shasta County from 1980 thru 1985; and
WHEREAS, Richard moved on to serve as Deputy Agricultural Commissioner in Solana County, from
1986 thru 1988; and
WHEREAS, on May 9, 1988, Richard Price was appointed as the Butte County Agricultural
Commissioner and Director of Weights and Measures. He concurrently served as Director of the Air Pollution
Control Department from 1990 to 1995, now an independent district. Richard also served concurrently as the
Director of Water Resources Division, now the Butte County's Department of Water and Resource
Conservation from 1996 to 2000; and
WHEREAS, Richard served as the President of the California Agricultural Commissioner and Sealers
Association from 1998 to 1999; and
WHEREAS, Richard B. Price guided the Agricultural Department during challenging times of agricultural
regulatory change, and pest eradication programing. Richard oversaw the protection and preservation of
agriculture, the number one industry in Butte County, by ensuring a safe and healthy agricultural product.
Richard helped secure the confidence of buyers and sellers by ensuring fairness in local, national and
international trade. He protected and promoted the wellbeing of all agricultural customers and community
members through the fair, equitable application of agricultural and weights and measures standards,
emphasizing education and cooperation, including the use of technology to enhance customer service; and
WHEREAS, while serving as the Butte County Agricultural Commissioner, Richard has consistently
assembled and maintained an outstanding team of staff to oversee and service the many diverse functions
and divisions of the Agricultural Department; and
WHEREAS, Richard has served the residents of the County of Butte for 27 years as Commissioner and
Director of Weights and Measures and is the longest serving California Agricultural Commissioner,
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, the Butte County Board of Supervisors on its own behalf, and on
behalf of the residents of the County of Butte, wish to express its sincere appreciation to Richard B. Price for
his many years of unselfish dedication to the outstanding service rendered to the residents of Butte County,
and further wish him well on his retirement.
PASSED AND ADOPTE by the Board of Supervisors of the County of Butte, State of California, this
29th day of September, 2015, by the following vote:
AYES: Supervisors Connelly, WahI, Kirk, Lambert and Chair Teeter
